Photography is a passion i'v never truely been able to pursue. the freedom and joy this form of expression gives is unlike in other forms of art. Being a woman, i pursue the works of women photographers of repute. On one of my online explorations, i came across the Orkin Photo Archive . This website is a comprehensive guide to all that is/ was Ruth Orkin. What make the work of this photojournalist and film-makers works so awe inspiring is simply the time- Mid 90's. for a woman to hold her own then required a stupendous sort of character and greatness. To highlight the magnitude of the achievement, consider this that women were allowed to vote in the United States for the first time in 1920, just one year before Ms.Orkin was born.
Ms.Orkin it seems to me celebrated womanhood through her work. Her most famous work being "American girl in Italy". it brought out the quite courage and endurance that is the quality of a woman everlasting.
Those of you who, like me, find artistic works of courage and conviction inspiring and uplifting, do pay the website ,of one of the most phenomenal women of all time, a visit.
